red mail Hugh Henry Campbell 1853 - 1921 - (Scotland - Berkshire)
Hugh Henry Campbell was born in Scotland in 1853 and his parents were William Campbell & Anna Henry. I have no residential details for Hugh or his family other than a family story: "My mother ERROL Ruth Lawrence was named after the town where Hugh came from" Hugh married either in Scotland or NZ and his wife died in childbirth. There is a belief that Hugh's sister a Mrs Robinson lived in NZ. Hugh then travelled to Queensland in Australia before settling in Northam in Western Australia. He married my great grandmother, Emma Amelia Smith in 1897. This was the second marriage for Emma who had six children to George Christmass prior to his death. My grandmother, Mona Evangeline Campbell was the first of Hugh & Emma's four children. I am seeking any information on the Campbell family who originated in Scotland. Sadly I have not been able to locate any documents or records and know nothing of their occupations or history. Would love to solve this missing piece in my puzzle. Thanks.

Looking for any family living in Three Mile Cross in 1920's-30's. My grandfather Charles Edward (b 14/5/1906) abandoned his wife and son, changed his name to Pembroke and ran off to be with my grandmother. He had a large family in Three Mile Cross at least 4 other brothers one of whom changed his age to serve in WWI and who then died in The Somme. He was the son of a farmer and could remember great detail about the village and his home but never gave us enough details to help us find his home. We never found out the whole truth about his life until he died 10 years ago at which point my grandmother had to admit to what had happened. If anyone can shed any light on this situation I would be eternally grateful as otherwise I have little or no chance of ever letting my father find out more about his family.

red mail North End West Woodhay - (West Woodhay - Berkshire)
In 1940 my mother and I spent a few days in the village, staying there because a person known simply as 'Aunt Ada' lived there and was willing to give us a few nights away from the air-raids in London. My maternal grandparents also came and stayed nearby. 'Aunt Ada' seemed to me, in the eyes of an eleven year old, to be extremely aged and we actually slept at another house nearby so that she was not obliged to provide breakfast for us. On Sunday we were under great strain as it was a case of strict Sunday Observance, although 'Aunt Ada' did not attend church. When my mother suggested we might play Patience this was simply unthinkable and forbidden. Now, looking back, I am intrigued to know who 'Aunt Ada' was in relation to our family. My grandparents bore the surname Yonwin, and I have an idea that 'Aunt Ada' may have been Ada Allen, but whether she was a family member is not clear. There appear to be no suitable people with that name in the family tree. In a small place like West Woodhay I wonder if anyone can identify this lady who lived there 70 years ago.
