Charles was born 1802 in Berkshire. Was one of the "Berkshire Machine Breakers - Captain Swing and the 1830 Riots". Married Martha Bearfield on 23 July 1827 at Aldworth Berkshire. Believe they had two children, a girl aged 3 and a boy 18 months. Trial Place: Reading, Trial Year: 1830, Sentence: 14 years, Age: 28. Transported to Australia on "Eleanor" from Portsmouth on 19 Feb 1831. Left wife and children behind. Looking for any relatives/descendants in UK.

Hi - I'm researching the above property, parts of which date from the 19th Century - I think! - and would appreciate any help or information. I do not believe it ever was a Coach House as such, but it was obviously a substantial property with servants quarters. There are some figure heads at the entrance - it has been suggested they represent 'The Elders of Bray', but whether this is merely a family name or an organisation of some description I don't know. My wife and myself visited Chaddleworth this summer during the course of researching her family (Lanfear). This family originated in Wiltshire and spread into the surrounding counties (and much further). The churchyard at Chaddleworth contains the tombs of some of the first Lanfears to come into Berkshire from Wiltshire. Most notable being Ambrose Lanfear (b.1717) married to Martha Brown in 1746. There are also other family members buried in the churchyard including Thomas Lanfear who married Lucretia Burbidge in 1809 . They lived in Hungerford, but were buried in Chaddleworth. Some later infant deaths in the family were buried with their great-grandparents, Ambrose and Martha. Later family members were buried in nearby Avington, includingWalter Francis Lanfear (b.1818) who was the Vicar at Avington for many years.

I am researching my mother's family tree. She was an Edwards born in 1918 - her mother's parents were Authur (born Burghclere, Hants 1858) and Louisa (born Burghclere, Hants 13/01/1856) and they must have been living in Hants at the start of their marriage as their first 2 children, George (b 1881) and Gertrude (b 1887) were born in Burghclere and Newtown. The Pearce family moved to Crowthorne, Berks where 4 more children were born - Frederick and Arthur were both killed in WW1, Rosaline and Sidney. My maternal grandmother was Gertrude but I would like more information on George and Sidney. Rosaline married Maurice Dixon but died with no issue. My grandmother married William Edwards in Crowthorne in 1914. At the time of the wedding William's father was already dead. William was one of 7 children - 2 boys & 5 girls - his mother remarried an H Gibbard and the family lived in Steeple Claydon, Bucks for 40 years before her death. She had another 8 children - 2 boys & 6 girls from this marriage, and her funeral report says that she had 46 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren when she died aged 76. There is a Jesse Gibbard and his wife Martha Ellen buried in the churchyard at Steeple Claydon. I am guessing these are the sam...

Has anyone got any information about John Hogsflesh or William Hogsflesh who were millers at Eddington in the first part of the nineteenth century. William later became known as William Hofland and was still alive aged 80 in 1871. An entry in a 1915 trade directory refers to William's grandson Newton Lowry Hofland as running the roller mill at Eddington. Any info. about this family would be welcome.
