Searching for info on my great, great grandmother Harriet Maynard who was 'innkeeper' at the Black Boy, Shinfield (1851 Census). A widow, she lost her husband Richard in 1850. A private in the NSW Corps(enlisted on 06.08.1789), James left England on the transport 'Surprise' on 13.11.1789 and arrived in Australia in 26.06.1790. James and Elizabeth WATTS (born circa 1774 at Dorset, England) had 6 children, all born at Sydney Cove, NSW Australia. I can share details of their descendants. I am searching for ancestors of James and Elizabeth. The only information I have is that James' parents were James MORRIS and Jane GLOVER.

The Lodge at Shinfield is an old house built in 1814, I believe. During WWII it served as the Mess for RAF Flying Training Command. From 1971 to 2002 it was the social centre of the Met Office College. Some of the additions to The Lodge look likeWorld War I, Great War, vintage buildings. Does anyone know the history of the house during the Great War? It was a private house, but did it have any special war role?
