red mail Savage family St Quivox
I am looking for information about the Savages in St Quivox in the late 1800s/early 1900s. My great Grandfather John savage was, I believe, born there in 1871 - but certainly lived there at the 1881 census at 1 Elba st Lane. He was the second of 5 children of Hugh (b c1845) and Catherine Savage (nee Clark b c 1845). The others were Margaret (c1868) Catherine (c1874) Hugh (c1876) David (c1879 Hugh (John's father) is listed as born in Ayr but could easily be St Quivox too and his parents were Hugh (again! b c 1813) and Agnes (nee White b c 1811). Again he was part of a large family. John (c1833) Margaret (c1837) James (c1840) Jane (c1841) William (c1847) Peter (c1850) I am very interested to find out about the village, and any information anyone might have about the Savages living there. Also any descendants of this family who might have information to share

red mail Baird, Bicker, Young & Farquhar
My great x5 grandparents were Thomas BAIRD and Grizel BICKER who were born around 1729, possibly in Ayrshire. They had 3 daughters, Anna, born 1749 in Ayr, Marion, born 1751 in Ayr, and Grace, born 1770 in Ayr. Grace BAIRD, my great x4 grandmother married Peter YOUNG in 1793 in Ayr. Peter may have been a soldier. They had a son, John YOUNG who was born in St Quivox, Ayrshire, in about 1802. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. He married Agnes FARQUHAR in 1826 in Ayr. Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular I’d be interested to get more details on Peter YOUNG and Grizel BICKER.
red mail Farquhar family, Ayrshire
My great (x6) grandparents were Hugh FARQUHAR and Jean WILSON, both born c1726 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. They had a son, John FARQUHAR, born c1751 in New Cumnock who married Jean STEELE, born c1752 perhaps in Ayrshire. John and Jean had 3 sons, all born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, William (c1768), John (c1771), and Robert (c1780). William, who was my great (x4) grandfather married Janet ALEXANDER, born c1770 in Ayrshire. They were married in St Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire, in 1792, and they had 9 children (7 female, 2 male), all of whom were born in St Quivox & Newton: Margaret (c1793), Janet (1795), Flora (1797), Helen (1800), Jean (1802), Agnes (my great x3 grandmother – 1803), Mary (1805), Alexander (1807) and Allan (1808). Mary married James MCKERROW, born c1805 in Cumnock, and they had a son, William MCKERROW, who was born in 1847 in Wales and married Annie PICKLES from Yorkshire. James MCKERROW died in 1881 in Pontypool, so I guess that’s possibly where William was born. Agnes FARQUHAR, my great x3 grandmother married John YOUNG in 1826 in Ayr. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. Agnes FARQUHAR died in an asylum in Glengall, Ayr, in 1881. They had 3 children, Janet (1827), Grace (1833, Ayr), and Allan (my great great grandfather – c1842). Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people?
