red mail HODGE Family, New Cumnock
I am looking for additional information about the Hodge family in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. My grandfather was William Farquhar FARRALL & his father (another William FARRALL) married Jane Gibson HODGE, (daughter of Andrew & Janet HODGE) at St Philips Church in Liverpool in 1887 (a long way from Janes home in Scotland). Andrew Hodge was a Colliery Engineman & they lived at Bank Glen School House in New Cumnock in 1881. Andrew's wife Janet was formerly a "MERRIE" and a "MITCHELL", Andrew had step sons with these surnames. I believe Janet came from Sanquhar, Dumfries. My Grandfathers middle name of "Farquhar" has always puzzled our family & I have recently read an entry about this name in the New Cumnock lists - I've sent an e-mail & hope to get a reply. Another thing that has long puzzled us is how on earth they met living so far apart. I do have additional information and will be happy to share it with anyone else with information that will help me or anyone else with an active interest.

red mail Turner
Looking for information on the origins of Archibald Campbell Turner. Oral family history says that he was born near Cumnock circa 1790. It is known that Archie arrived in Canada in 1820 on the ship "the Commerce," to take up a land grant in Lanark County, Ontario, then called the Perth Military Settlement. Shortly thereafter he married Jannet McLatchie, whose parents and siblings have been proven to also come from the Cumnock area. Archie died in Guelph Ontario a few years later.
red mail McKinnell
Looking for parents of Annie McKinnell born 1824. Family lived in Cumnock, then, in New Cumnock, I believe. Hutchinson is a surname somewhere in the family, but I don't know where or why. Any help would be appreciated

red mail Farquhar family, Ayrshire
My great (x6) grandparents were Hugh FARQUHAR and Jean WILSON, both born c1726 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. They had a son, John FARQUHAR, born c1751 in New Cumnock who married Jean STEELE, born c1752 perhaps in Ayrshire. John and Jean had 3 sons, all born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, William (c1768), John (c1771), and Robert (c1780). William, who was my great (x4) grandfather married Janet ALEXANDER, born c1770 in Ayrshire. They were married in St Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire, in 1792, and they had 9 children (7 female, 2 male), all of whom were born in St Quivox & Newton: Margaret (c1793), Janet (1795), Flora (1797), Helen (1800), Jean (1802), Agnes (my great x3 grandmother – 1803), Mary (1805), Alexander (1807) and Allan (1808). Mary married James MCKERROW, born c1805 in Cumnock, and they had a son, William MCKERROW, who was born in 1847 in Wales and married Annie PICKLES from Yorkshire. James MCKERROW died in 1881 in Pontypool, so I guess that’s possibly where William was born. Agnes FARQUHAR, my great x3 grandmother married John YOUNG in 1826 in Ayr. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. Agnes FARQUHAR died in an asylum in Glengall, Ayr, in 1881. They had 3 children, Janet (1827), Grace (1833, Ayr), and Allan (my great great grandfather – c1842). Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people?
