red mail REID Family Research
I'm looking for information on the REID family living in Maybole, Ayrshire. My Reid ancestors were cotton handloom weavers in Maybole. There are about five Reid families listed in the Maybole 1841 Census. My particular Reid line stems from Joseph and Martha Reid (nee McMillan), originally of Ireland. Their children were Margaret (1821), James (1826), Martha (1831), Samuel (1832), Gideon (1833), Janet (1838), Alexander (1840) and Joseph (1843). My family descends from Joseph. My great-grandfather, James Rusk Reid (1869), was a compositor at the Glasgow Herald in the 1890s before he died at the age of 29. He was married to Mary Muir and they had four boys, Joseph, John, James and Gideon. James' father was Joseph Reid who was a tailor and his mother was Elizabeth Rusk (1844). Please contact me if you have any info to share or if you think I can help you with your research into this family.

red mail Mccubbin Innkeeper/provost/farmer
My Mccubbin family came to Maybole from Dailly as weavers in or about 1790. They moved about a bit within the area and lived at Dalmellington and Straiton for a while but returned to Maybole for several generations. John born 1871 Dalmellington was Provost of Maybole and succeeded his father as landlord of the now demolished Kings Arms - originally a coaching inn.His Brother William farmed Lochlands farm and that farm saw 3 generations of McCubbin. A fascinating family!
