They were from the Ayrshire area, my grandfather was Charles Mcginley born in 1919 and he had 4 sisters and 2 brothers. His parents were John and Mary but I know no more about them. I am interested in finding out about my lost uncle Frank. Sadly I know he is dead but I am curious to know about his life. He was the illegitimate son of Isabel Savage and internet research has led me to believe he was one Frank Jones Savage b 1936 in Ayr. The full name in conjecture but I know he was called Frank, born 1935 or 6 in Ayr and adopted by a cousin of some kind of Isabel's so I do not know for sure what his surname was at birth or later. I believe they moved to Wales at some stage and he died in 1975.

I am looking for family of David McLean born 1868 and wife, Ellen Smylie born 1875. They moved from Ireland to Ayr, Scotland around 1900. They had 8 children, one was Jean McLean (my mother). Jean went to Toronto, Canada around 1930 and married my father..George Cooper. All the rest of her brothers and sister stayed in Scotland. The brothers were Robert, William, Alex, David, Joe and one that died in infancy, I believe. The sister was Rebecca (Beck). I recall that their home in Ayr was called 'Scenery Hill'.I have old pics and a great family portrait. Would love to hear from family.

Catharine married John/Peter Murdoch in Stewarton and had son John 1837. John married Margaret McDonald (B 1843 Kilmarnoch) in Kilbirnie. Margarets parents were Charles c1820 and Agnes Riddle c1820. John and Margaret Murdoch had children Agnes 1870, Catherine 1872, Margaret 1876 and John 1879 all born Kilsyth Stirlingshire. Hoping someone recognises something!

A gr.grandfather of mine I only know his surname, Milne. He left Scotland for South Africa. He worked in the Diamond Mine in Kimberley, Cape Province (1870-1880?). His wife (also only a surname, Bruce) I believe her family ran an Inn somewhere around Ayr or Ayrshire. In 1885 my grandmother Lily Milne was born in Kimberley after which her father (Milne) left them for the Gold fields in Johannesburg. Is there anybody who knows of a family member who left for South Africa and worked in diamond/gold fields. Maybe returning to Scotland. Would appreciate any information over the Bruce family who had an Inn somewhere in Ayrshire in the 1820's?. Also information about the family Milne, Ayrshire?

My great x5 grandparents were Thomas BAIRD and Grizel BICKER who were born around 1729, possibly in Ayrshire. They had 3 daughters, Anna, born 1749 in Ayr, Marion, born 1751 in Ayr, and Grace (or Grizel), born 1770 in Ayr. Grace BAIRD, my great x4 grandmother married Peter YOUNG in 1793 in Ayr. Peter may have been a soldier. They had a son, John YOUNG who was born in St Quivox, Ayrshire, in about 1802. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. He married Agnes FARQUHAR in 1826 in Ayr. Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular I’d be interested to get more details on Peter YOUNG and on Grizel BICKER. Update May 06 - Grizel BICKER's parents were John BICKER (1709 app) and Isabell WILSON (1709 app)who were married in 1725 in Ayr. Isabell's father was William WILSON (1689 app).

My great grandfather left Ayr - a sheep farm - to come to London in 19th century, he had a pub in London but left to go to Australia in the gold rush, leaving wife, daughters and son Thomas to run the pub.
