Entries around
red mail Spalding or Spalden
Looking for descendants of Francis Spalding (b1802) or Thomas Spalding(b1798) or their relatives who lived in Peebles. They were the sons of James Spalding or Spalden, b1773. Some of their own daughters married into the Hamilton, Fergusson, Briggs, Beattie families. Spaldings lived in Peebles until at least the late 1960's when Marion Spalding died there. I am particularly interesting in exchange of any photographs or documents from the 1800's and early 1900's.
red mail Thomas Veitch/Elizabeth Henderson
I am trying to find information on Thomas Veitch who was a herdsman at Eshiels farm near Peebles who married Elizabeth Henderson on (I think) 23rd August 1776. They had a daughter called Helen. I would like to know the parents of both Thomas and Elizabeth and any other info anybody has on them. Thanks
Robert Veitch (abt 1899-1946)
Robert was born in abt 1899 in Peebles,Peebleshire, Scotland. He served in WW2 as a sergeant in The Royal Scots & came through safely only to be killed in a 'hit & run' accident whilst cycling in his home town of Peebles. He left behind a wife, Winifred Keane Veitch (nee Moore) 1895-1983 & a daughter Mary Fraser Veitch . I don't have his service number which I believe I need to access data from his service records, so if anyone could forward any information regarding Robert, particularly his early life/parents/siblings etc., I would be most grateful. Mary.
red mail Mckennay - Brown
I am researching this branch of the family. William and Helen are my Great Great grandparents and I also hit a dead end when researching Helen.
Scobie,Forsyth
I am looking for the family of Andrew Scobie and Jean Forsyth. Their children were Joanna 1839, Isabella 1841, Andrew 1844, Jean 1846. Andrew and Jean were married in 1839 but by 1851 Jean had died and Andrew had married a Mary? Any info would be great. Thanks Fiona
red mail Roxburgh Family
I am looking for info on John Gilchrist Roxburgh, b. 12 May 1877 in Peebles, son of John (b. in Traquair) and Sarah Roxburgh; and Agnes Elizabeth Roxburgh, b. 1882 in Peebles, sister of John G. John G. went to Hawaii around 1910 and started a family. Agnes went to the USA, married Alfred Groom, and settled in The District of Columbia (Washington, DC).
Turnbull
Looking for information on John Turnbull of Peebles, baker, died 1820. Married Lucy Marshall in 1779, had two sons (twins?) in 1781, William and Andrew. Andrew married Elizabeth Robertson in Edinburgh in 1826; he worked for the Excise Dept in London and they had 3 sons, Alexander, Andrew Hugh and John William. Any information on any of these people would be welcome.
red mail McKennay & Brown
James McKennay born c1800 Ireland married Agnes Clark born 1806 Broughton. In 1841 they were living at Eddlestone, in 1851 at Peebles. Their children were possibly Agnes 1831, James 1834, John 1835, Mary 1837, Helen 1840, William 1842 and Abraham 1844. William came to South Australia in 1865, and married Helen/Ellen Brown in 1867, three days after she arrived from Scotland. Helen was born c1844 and gave her father as George Brown but has been difficult to trace. In 1861 William was a ploughman at Overhorsburgh House, Innerleithen and itÂ’s likely that an ag servant at the same address, Helen Brown age 16 born Kirkland, was his future wife. John McKennay married Marion Inglis, and Abraham married Robina Allas. Is anyone else researching this family?
red mail PORTEOUS
I am researching the Porteous family tree and have Alexander Porteous born 1764c Peebles who married Jean Watson born 1766c and they had 10 children John, Janet, Margaret, Robert, Grizzel, James, Alexander, Jean, William & David Porteous all born between 1789 and 1809 in Stobo, Peebles. I descend from Robert Porteous 1794 who married Agnes McCall born 1795 Lyne, Peebles daughter of Thomas McCall & Agnes Smail.
Bayley - Spence?
Looking for information on Elizabeth Bayley who married a Dr Spence (?) possibly in the Peebles area around the 1920's
