red mail Robert (Eston?) Pollock b 1822
Robert Pollock, whose middle name may. or may not, be Eston, was born about 1822 in Eaglesham. Possible parents are John Pollock b 1790 in Eastwood and Helen Boyle. Is anyone able to confirm or disprove this for me please? Robert, a pianoforte maker by trade, married Elizabeth Leckie of Eastwood, in Eastwood in 1852 and they had six or possibly 7 children, some of whom died young. One of his sons, Robert, b 1862, KIrkgunzeon, Kircudbrightshire, emigrated to Brisbane, Australia, where he had adopted the name of Robert Manderson Leckie-Pollock. When being interviewed by the newspaper in the late 1890s he stated that he was descended in a direct line from one of the oldest Lowland families of Scotland, the Pollocks of the Mearns, Eaglesham, who occupied the house of Pollock for 500 years. He said he was a nephew of the late Dr Dougal of Greenwich and cousin to Dr Andrew Dougal of Glasgow. (No indication on which side of the family this is). One of his father's cousins was Robert Pollock the poet. Does anyone know of a relationship between the Pollocks and the Mandersons? Three at least, of Robert Senior's children had Manderson as a middle name. Any information at all welcome on this family. Marie in Sydney
