Bleaked Hill Childrens' Isolation Hospital
Situated on Milnrow Road (now the Dale View estate). I would like to speak to anyone who knows anything about the hospital which opened in 1907 and closed in the 1960's. Were you a patient or an employee of the hospital. Or did you visit someone there? I am recording the story of the hospital for local history records. Thanks for your help.
Lake view Hospital School
From about 1954, Mrs Alice OLDHAM was the Headmistress of the highly-acclaimed Lakeview Hospital School, Milnrow Road, Smithy Bridge. Miss Gladys HASLAM was a teacher at the school. I am researching the school's achievements and activities and would welcome help and information from relatives of the two named teachers or anyone who attended the school as a pupil. At the same time, Miss A I BOWNASS was Matron of Lakeview Hospital. I would like to hear from any relatives of Miss Bowmass who have any information about the hospital. If you were a patient of the hospital, at any time, your input would be particularly valuable. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thomas Newton and Elizabeth Cameron
My grandfather, Thomas Newton, was born in Sedgwick, Cumbria, but moved to Littleborough about 1884. He was Steward of Littleborough Reform Club (The King's Hall) and then resident Manager of The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Littleborough Square. Thomas married Elizabeth Cameron ( a maid resident in Shore House)in 1886 at The Holy Trinity Church Littleborough. At this time the couple lived in Maden's Square, Littleborough, where their first child, Eva, was born. In 1886, Thomas and Elizabeth moved to The Wheatsheaf Hotel where their second child, Archibald, was born in 1888. Approx 1890 the family moved to Leeds where they stayed for the rest of their lives. Any information about the time Thomas and Elizabeth spent in Littlborough will be gratefully received.
