red mail Rocks - Eastham and Highwood
I'm related to the Rock family who lived in the Eastham and Highwood area. My great grandfather James Rock (1868 - 1922)and his large family lived in Lime Tree(or Lime Tree Pool as it was known then) Cottage Eastham. Can you solve a family mystery as to why they all moved to Southampton the mid / late nineteenth c. ? And how did the children of a poor agricultural labourer's large family come to own so much property in Southampton (particularly James brother Harry 1863 -)? We have lots of information on the Rocks but don't know the answers as to why all moved en masse, why they picked Southampton, or how they seemed to suddenly become so affluent.
red mail Naykers Hall
Naykers hall is detailed in a book called Eastham Remembered ISBN 0-9511995-8-7. Does anyone have a copy. Is it still in print?
red mail Knackers hole farm
I am researching my Barnbrook family history part of which is centered in the Eastham,Rochford and Tenbury area of Worcestershire/ Herefordshire. Any information would be welcome. The farm is named Knamus Hole in the 1901 Census! In the 1851 Census William Holl is in residence. In 1879 Timothy Barnbrook died there and in 1881 Joseph and Esther Barnbrook,my great, great grandparents, are living there.I believe the farm then passed to Joseph's daughter Esther who married a George Powell in 1893.I would very much like to know what happened from then on.
