red mail Hynes/Hines gents clothing
My fourth great grandparents were from Dublin. My third GG James Hynes (1809) was to be the sixth generation in the family business, which was gent's clothing. His parents were Marion Winne and Mr. Hynes(his name may have been William). James father died about 1818. James went to live with his maternal grandmother Harriet Winne. At age 15 she died, and James, wanting to see a bit of the world before entering the family business, stowed away, with a friend, aboard a ship that ended up in Quebec Canada. James got off there and settled into life as a farmer, logger etc. He married Elizabeth Sadler from Roscommon Ireland. James also had a sister named Harriet who's married name was Mullen, and a brother named Johnston, who died of cholera in New Orleans USA. IF this seems familiar to you please contact me. Dale
Sweeney/Brown
Hugh Sweeney, b.1824 in Londonderry, Ireland. d. Aug. 1884 in Anderston, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. He married Ellen Brown, daughter of John Brown and Barbara Gallagher on Sept. 11, 1862 in Ramelton, Donegal, Ireland. Ellen was born 1844 in Ireland. She died 10 August 1918 in Shettleston, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Their children were William, Rose Ann, Barbara, Jane, Philip, John, Daniel,Helen Bridget, Patrick Emmet, Cecilia and Hugh. The children were born in Scotland and Ireland. My grandmother was their daughter Jane. I have located "cousins" who are descended from Philip and Patrick and I am looking for the descendants of the other children. Ellen Brown, according to a relative, was the founder of the Suffragette Movement in Ireland. Hugh Sweeney was a Commission Agent and a "Spirit" merchant and moved frequently. Their son, Patrick was an IRA Commandant and a writer..Lots of interesting characters here!! Patrick's descendants in Ireland have a wonderful photo album.
