The Descendants of Thomas Chandler (1475-1554)
(May 10
Green)
I am of the 17th generation to have descended from Thomas. I am aware of two genealogical works that provide source information of Thomas' descendants.
The first is an article from the "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register", pp. 133-45, Vol 85, April, 1931 article, "The Ancestry of William Chandler of Roxbury, Mass.". This article identifies Thomas as the first Chandler known to have lived in Bishop's Stortford. It cites some primary sources of information on Thomas' approximately 108 descendants born in Bishop's Stortford.
The second is the 1883 book written by Dr. George Chandler "The Chandler Family, The Descendants of William And Annis Chandler, Who Lived In Roxbury, Mass., 1637." This work catalogues nearly 5,000 descendants of William the great great grandson of Thomas.
I invite correspondance from other descendants of Thomas and/or any researchers in the Bishop's Stortford area who may be able to help me identify additional facts and sources of information on the life and times of this bloodline. Thank you. |

Mahala Housden/Stanstead Mountfitchet
(Apr 10
Green)
My great grandmother is found in the 1851 census which indicates she was born around 1831 in the Stortford area, but I have hit a brick wall. She may be the daughter of William Housden and Mary Mortlock (of Hempstead) as her wedding banns in 1854 in London name Willliam Housden, carpenter as her father. Any clues appreciated |

Benjamin Debnam - Blacksmith
(Mar 10
Red)
I am trying to find more information about my GT Gt Gt grandfather Benjamin Debnam. He was born in 1776, I believe in Bishops Stortford (Hockerill) and was married to Susanah also born in 1776. He is recorded as being a Smith in Hockerill. They had 4 sons, Robert, William, Benjamin, John and a daughter Susannah. The sons are all recorded as being blacksmiths. In 1841, 3 of the sons are recorded as blacksmiths in Harlow, Potter Street and later, Foster Street. I am trying to establish exactly when and where Benjamin snr was born and married. I have hit the proverbial brick wall and cannot trace any information further back. Any help would be appreciated.

They moved to Coventry and are buried there. But I'd like to revisit some on the Griggs connections.

This RAF Officer appears to have married a Miriam Jean Stewart in 1940, they had one child a Michael John Rust b1941 Bishop's Stortford.
Mother (now remarried Burk) and child both sailed for New York in 1946.
Can anyone confirm or tell me about these people?
