washbourn/e
(Nov 08 Green)
I am researching the Washbourn/e family who farmed at Stanford Dingley in the mid 19th century. John Washbourn was married to Eliza Reeve and they were at Field Farm on the 1851 census, where they had 2 of their children, John Hillier Reeve Washbourn and Sarah Ellen. John's father was also John Washbourn and his mother was Harriet Mildenhall from Hungerford, Berks. He was born in Inkpen, Berks in 1826 where his parents farmed c1825 - 1841. His father inherited Overtown Farm in Wroughton Wilts in 1841 when his uncle (also John) died (he had no children). His other uncle was Abraham White Washbourn and his two uncles were bequeathed Overtown by their father Thomas to manage together. From this it would seem that Abraham had died before his brother John in 1841, but I don't know for sure. And I am quite interested to find out about Abraham and whether he married and had a family. By the 1861 census John and Eliza were in Wroughton Village farming (John lists himself as a farmer, miller and baker), but in between they had been to Newbury where they had had two more children Tom and Elizabeth. Their daughter Eliza was born in Wroughton 5 months before the census and this suggests that they had not long moved there.
