Walker/Pratt families of Hebden, Linton, Malham Moor 1800s (Jan 09 Green)
I am descended from Thomas Walker and Ann Pratt Walker who lived in the area around Hebden, Grassington, Malham Moor. They had at least 7 sons, one of whom (John ~1816-1866) was my g-g-grandfather. John and at least two of his brothers (Edward ~1830-1910? and Joseph 1835-1927) went to the US as miners in Wisconsin and the California gold rush. I believe John's brother William went as well. I do not know if Thomas and Ann went to America. They do not appear in the English census records (nor does John, implying he may have left for the US before 1841). Thomas and Ann were born around 1793. The sons who stayed in England worked as (dairy?) farmers and sold butter. At some point one or two of the boys lived with the Pratt family. I am eager to hear from anyone who is related to these families. - Tim
