Thomas Lanfear, Vicar, During 1868-1898
(Revised Apr 05
Red)
Interested in this fine gentleman, who trained for the Ministry at St Bees, Northumberland, with my g.grandfather. They must have been close friends, for I find that they pledged to name their first-born children incorporating the others surname, as in Elizabeth LANFEAR Barton.
Thomas had a family while a Missionary in New Zealand, then settled back in England in Letcombe where all 3 of his sons tragically succumbed while teenagers to TB, as well as his wife! Just he and his daughter Mary survived the disease. Such sorrow:I have a most poignant 1885 letter which he sent to my grandfather describing his terrible family-events, and no doubt, that his faith had been very much tested.
