Blacks of Kirkconnel
(Mar 09 Green)
Does anyone have information on the Black family of Kirkconnel Village? My GG-Grandmother was Margaret Black (no birth registration -- believed born Kirkconnel abt 1818) who married George McLellan of Closeburn on 16 Aug 1839 in Kirkconnel. The family later moved to High Street, Sanquhar (per 1851 census), and then emigrated to Canada in 1857. In the 1841 census (Kirkconnel), Margaret, 20, was enumerated with Adam Black, 60, cooper; Jean Black, 60; Adam Black, 9; and David McClelan, age 1 (David was her first-born son). Could Adam and Jean be her parents -- and if so, is this Adam Black and Jean Kennan? Margaret had a cousin, John Wallace, whose parents were James Wallace of Morton by Thornhill and Margaret Kennan, also of Morton. Also trying to determine if Walter Black, who married Mary Park (Jan 1835), then Helen McLellan (July 1847), is also a child of Adam Black and Jean Kennan. Helen McLellan may be the sister of above-mentioned George McLellan. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge of the Black family or the Kennans. Thanks.

Alexander Anderson - surfaceman
(Mar 06
Red)
Can someone help me with this. I'm looking for anything on family of Alexander Anderson, (18451909). Poet, son of a quarrier at Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire, became a surfaceman on the railway. My great aunt is certain that he is a relative but her family are connected to Cumnock. He wrote the poem, Cuddle Doon, which I think may have been about my great aunt, grandmother and their brothers and sisters. His parents were James and Isabella from Kirkconnel. I'm also looking for a link between James and my ggg-grandfather John Anderson, who married Elizabeth Murray. I'm hopingn they are brothers, which would make Alexander a relation as my great aunt believes.
Can someone help?
