red mail Thomas Scane/Skane/Scaine
Looking for info regarding Thomas Scane/Skane/Scaine family who were supposed to be involved in the whaling industry in Hull in the late 1700's early 1800's before coming to Ontario Canada, on one of their own ships abt 1820. They were apparently a well to-do highly respected family of the area. Thomas b about 1765, married abt 1793 possibly to Jane (maybe a Waddingham and maybe in South Cave). Children, Jane b about 1795, Besty, Ellen (died in England), John b 1800 possibly in North or South Cave and Thomas b abt 1805 possibly in Hull. John, Bessy and Thomas may have been baptized in North Cave. Looking to confirm whaling connections and parents/siblings of Thomas. Any help info would be appreciated.
George Henry Cottam/Annie Stephen
I am trying to track down any information about this couple and possible siblings. George Henry Cottam Bn 1897 married an Annie Stephen at the Registery Office Hull on 20th December 1928. Cottam gave his occupation as 'Licensed Victualler' of 12 Grindell St, Hull and Stephen gave her address as The Lansdowne Hotel, Anlaby Rd. I know of the Hotel. They divorced in late 1930's. They both originated from the Ecclesall Bierlow area of Sheffield and as no Family members of the Cottam family were present it is suggested they might have disgraced the family name in someway, possibly a pregnancy. George Henry Cottam (JNR) was also left out of his fathers will which would indicate something was wrong also.Hope someone can help, Regards Gillian
William & Elizabeth JONES in HULL around 1770-1790 ?
William JONES (a son of Jacob ben Naftali Ha-Cohen from LAUTERSBACH and / or FULDA), probably born in 1750-51 in FULHAM, left KINGSTON upon HULL between 1787 and 1795 towards Denmark, where he settled as a merchant in the Grocery line in COPENHAGEN. In England before, he seems to have been a merchant in porcelain ("china"). He was married with a certain Elizabeth, about 20 y older than he's, who died at COPENHAGEN in 1809-10. They were accompanied by their children, Elizabeth and William, both probably born in Hull around 1775-80, who married resp. 1801 and 1805 at COPENHAGEN Johan and Caroline KIETZ, also brother and sister. Any other data concerning this family's arrival to / staying at HULL would be very welcome. I am a direct descendant of William's brother Jonathan who came to BRUSSELS in 1815 and died there in 1829. Thank you everyone !
red mail Dargue and Rosen
I have found the death of my gt grandfather after 5 years of searching. It has confirmed that he did indeed go off (we think with another woman) and then died later than first thought. He died on January 1st 1938. Albert Ernest Dargue died at 5 Durham Street in Hull and the informant was an E. A. Rosen. Is there anyone out there who could find out information of where he could be buried or who this Rosen person was please. Did they have more children if this is the lady he went off with? I would love to know more. Thanks in advance for your help.
Joshua Dawson
I'm trying to find the baptism record/birth place of Joshua Dawson. Born about 1814 Yorkshire. All the census I have says he was born in Kingston upon Hull. He married Margaret Gask(e) in 1839 in Hull. On the marriage cert his father is stated as "the late John Dawson" occupation - tailor. Joshua was also a tailor. Can anyone help me find Joshua's baptism record and the name of his mother. Also the names of any siblings Joshua had. One other problem, I can't find Joshua, Margaret and family on the 1861 census. By 1871 he became a grocer in North Myton, Kingston upon Hull. Other families related to the Dawson's are Galsworthy, Pattinson and Bristow. Thanks Maxine
Charlotte Bradley
Hi, I am looking for information regarding the family background of this convict to Australia. She was sentenced for larceny at the Kingston on Hull Quarter Sessions in January 1812 and sent to the colonies on the ship Wanstead according to the Home Office records. She is noted on the record as a 'housewife' which suggests that she was married. Her birth - estimated as 1796 - cannot be traced from Australia nor can family information in England be found. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
red mail Percival Jefferey Robinson
My father in law is Peter Robinson. His father is Percival J. Robinson. We have been searching out the family genealogy because Peter is still with us and is 92 years old and we are trying to solve the mystery of Percy's (his father) disappearance in 1929. To verify what we know, the family lived at 113 Ella St when Lillian, Gladys, Alice, William, Nellie and Percy were kids. Percy Robinson married Dorothy Elizabeth Hindson and had two kids, Keith and Peter. Keith is now deceased. We have not been able to uncover ANYTHING about his disappearance and time is running out for my father in law. I would truly appreciate ANY info you may have.
