red mail David Smith - Royal Horse Artillery (8/02-10/03 Red)
David SMITH stated that he was born in the parish of Inverarity when he joined the Royal Horse Artillery in 1804 (age stated as 17, occupation Weaver) and again in retirement in the 1851 census when he was living in the village of Luthermuir, parishof Marykirk, Kincardineshire. He died in 1853 (from army pension record) before civil registration in Scotland and there is no record of a birth for a David SMITH around the right time of 1787 in the OPR records for Inverarity. He married Ann MILLin 1817 in Rescobie, Angus. Ann died about 1824 and David then married Ann ROSS at Marykirk in 1825. David SMITH & Ann MILL children were David & James (twins) born 1817 at Forfar,Angus, Ann born 1819 at Newburgh, Fife, John born 1821 at Cupar, Fife and Janet born 1823 at Rescobie, Angus.

red mail Parish Of Inverarity & Methy, Angus Scotland (8/02-10/03 Red)
This rural Parish lies to the south of the county town of Forfar. There are one or two estates,Fothringham House, several farms, and a few small villages. My particular interest is in the village of Kincaldrum, which is on the west side of the Parish. In the early 1800s there were flax bleaching fields. The Parish of Glamis lies just to the west .
