Hurley, East Arms Hotel
(Aug 09 Green)
I would like any information on the East Arms Hotel, which stood at the southern end of Hurley High Street but was demolished to make way for a housing estate, around 2002 I believe. My 2xGt.Grandmother's brother William Deacon is shown on the 1891 Census as Proprietor of East Arms Hotel. He was still there when he died in 1894.I would like to know who was the next Propietor but any info would be welcome. Also anything about the gymkana area that was opposite the Hotel,as the Deacon family were involved with horses in various ways. Many thanks.

DEACON family.
(Aug 08 Green)
1841 Census Thomas DEACON (Horsebreaker)was living at STAR LANE, with his wife Elizabeth and 8 children. The eldest daughter SARAH was my Gt.Gt.Grandmother, born in Denchworth about 1826. She is not at Star Lane in 1851 Census but found again in 1861 living in London as a widow, with children, named "COANDE" which I suspect is an anagram of DEACON. I would love to trace her "missing years" between 1841-1861. I would also be pleased to get info on any of her siblings, particularly her sister SELINA b.about 1829 and her brother WILLIAM b.1836 who appears in 1881 Census as "Inn Keeper" at the Ray Mead Hotel, Cookham and in 1891 Census as "Hotel Proprietor of the East Arms Hotel, HURLEY. The rest of Sarah's siblings were:George, Hester, Anna, Charles, Martha, Ruth, James & Joseph. Many thanks for any help, Sylvia.
