green mail Cliffen/Clifton/Brown (Oct 08 Green) Charlwood
Help Can you help me unravel a mystery regarding my great x3 grandparents Isaac Cliffen and Elizabeth? This may take some explaining – so please stay with me. I have reviewed the Charlwood parish records and found a marriage record for Isaac Cliffen & Elizabeth Brown on August 25, 1813 in Charlwood, Surrey, England This couple had 5 children baptized in Charlwood. Isaac Cliffen – baptized June 25, 1815 Elizabeth Cliffen – baptized January 31, 1819 Mary Cliffen – baptized October 1, 1820 Thomas Cliffen- baptized January 12, 1823 Stephen Cliffen – baptized March 6, 1825 I cannot find an Isaac & Elizabeth Cliffen or any of the children in the 1841 census. But do find an Isaac Clifton with 4 children Elizabeth, Isaac, Mary & Stephen all about the right age living in Leigh, Surrey (about 5 kilometers from Charlwood). Is this a strange coincident or do you think this could possibly be my great x3 grandfather? In the 1851 census; Isaac Clifton is listed as a widowed and living with his daughter Elizabeth, a servant and 2 agricultural labourers in Leigh, Kent. Occupation listed as a Farmer of ** acres - employing 3 labourers Elizabeth Cliffen is listed as a widowed and head of the household. Living with son Thomas, daughter-in-law Amy and granddaughters: Elizabeth, Sarah Ann & Jane @ Broadham Green in Oxted, Surrey. Occupation listed as a Pauper In the 1861 census; Isaac Clifton is living with his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Stephen Weller @ Hook Farm in Leigh, Surrey. Occupation listed as a Retired Farmer Elizabeth Cliffen is living with her son Thomas, daughter-in-law Amy, 4 grandchildren; Emma, Jane, John & Thomas and Amy's father William King @ Broadham Green in Oxted, Surrey. No occupation listed In the 1871 census; Isaac Clifton is living with his daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Stephen Weller and 2 grandson; Isaac (abt 1858/Reigate) & William A (abt 1862/Reigate) Clifton in Leigh, Winchester, Surrey. Occupation listed as Living on Annuitant Elizabeth Cliffen is living with son Thomas, grandchildren; Ann, Thomas, John, Emma, William & Henry and great grandson William H @ Broadham Green in Oxted, Surrey. No occupation listed I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I look forward to hearing from you.

red mail Ellis in Charlwood (Mar 08 Red) Charlwood
I am searching for information about the Pickett, aka Piggott, families who were living in the Haslemere, Chiddingfold and possibly even Hambledon areas from before 1700 through to the mid 1800's at least. My interest concerns the ancestors of Jane Pickett b 1813 Haslemere who "married" William Collins and settled in Chelsea. I think her parents were John Pickett b 1785 Haslemere and Jane Ellis b 1780 Chiddingfold. I believe his parents were John Pickett b 1760 Chiddingfold and Ann ?. I believe her parents were Thomas Ellis b 1840 Charlwood and Jane? John's parents were probably Abraham Pickett and Elizabeth Matthew. I am looking for any input from anyone - I have several dead ends here - I have lots of stuff but much of it mainly conjecture. I will share anything I have with anyone interested. Thank you.
