Howard/Barber of Great Yarmouth
(Oct 09
Red)
I am researching the family history for Robert Charles Howard born 1836 in Great Yarmouth. His parents were Robert Howard and names of mother are listed as Sarah Barber and on his death certificate Harriet. Robert Charles was a steward on a boat which travelled in Australian Waters. He migrated to Australia in the 1860s. His father Robert was a master mariner in Great Yarmouth. I would love to hear from anyone who has some history of Howards in Great Yarmouth.

Godfrey
(Jun 09
Red)
William Godfrey b 1847 Yarmouth and his son James Godfrey b 1873 Erith appear together on the 1891 census but I can't find earlier records for either of them. There's a possibility that James may have been born at sea on the Erato going to Australia but I have no firm evidence. Any ideas gratefully received.

John Barnes (1865)
(Revised Sep 09 Green)
I am trying to find the parents and/or siblings of my great grandfather John Barnes, born in Great Yarmouth in 1865, married Minnie Fisk and died in October 1933 in Sunderland. It is rumoured in the family that he may have been brought up by gypsies. Another story is that he was left on a church step as a child. I have so far been unable to locate his birth details. He appears on the 1901 and 1911 census, and this gives his birth year as abt.1865 and he gives his place of birth as Great Yarmouth. I am trying to find out if he had any siblings and further details of his parents. His father was also John Barnes, but I have no details of his mother.
