The parents of the Groom , James Urquhart , and Mary Ann Urquhart (Maiden surname Jackson ) were deceased at the time of the wedding...................................................... Following their marriage , Robert and Maggie Urquhart , lived at Elmlea Cottage , Forres...................................... It was there that their first child , Robert William Urquhart was born , in 1896.............................................. Robert William Urquhart was to have a distinguished career , in the British Civil Service. He was educated at Boharm Primary School , Mulben ; Keith Grammar School , Keith ; and Edinburgh University..................................................... He was awarded the OBE in 1923 , and CMG in 1944............... Robert William Urquhart was knighted in 1950.................... Sir Robert William Urquhart was appointed Chairman of the Crofters' Commission when it was set up in 1955.................... Sir Robert died at Edinburgh , in 1983.

I am searching for information on Cothall outside Forres where my ancestor Donald Ross was a quarrier and manager of the lime kilns there. I am curious about the houses and cottages on the estate and where Donald's family could have lived as their address in the 1841 and 1861 census was Cothall.

A real long shot this, but does anyone have any knowledge of Alexander Mitchell born 18 Feb 1821 in Forres. On the 1841 census he was living with an assortment of single blokes in North Back Street , Forres.....Alexr Fraser, George French, Anne Monro and Hugh Monro.

My great grandmother Janet Watson was born in Batchen St,Forres on 1859. Her parents were William Watson, a shoemaker, and Mary McGregor/ Mcgrigor. She had a number of siblings - Mary, Maggie,Isabella, William, John, Donald, Bessie and Alexander. Family were later living at 85, High St, Forres.Grateful for any information about them.

In particular the family of John McKimmie (Tailor) and Christian Fraser who lived at 334 High Street and 7 & 10 Caroline Street, Forres. John was the son of James McKimmie and Jean (Jane)Anderson and Christian was the daughter of Donald Fraser and Mary Nicolson. Any information greatly appreciated.

Anne 1801 Born Baptised with Barbara again in Alves We also found a Lewis Hay m Margaret Watson 5/9/1736 Kirkmichael Maybe James Father? Robert was transported to Australia and has a long dynasty here, but what happened to his wife,children & Sibling? Would be happy to share Australian info if I could only find the Scotland info.
