red mail Wylie (Nov 07 Red)
I am trying to find out more about my great grandmother Annie Wylie's step-father James Wylie. Annie appears to have taken his name after her mother Susan's remarriage. James was a tailor, born in Scotland about 1860 (according to the 1891 census). He and Susan had a son Thomas born in 1881 in Dudley Port before ending up in Liverpool where they had more children. I can't find any sign of this family in the 1881 census (in Staffordshire or anywhere else), but there is another tailor called James Wylie with a wife Susan in Dudley Port with a newborn son Thomas. I know that these are not the same people as they have different birthdates and they have other children that don't match my family, but their birthplaces (Scotland for James and the Birmingham area for Susan) are the same as well. I realize that James Wylie is a very common name (as is Thomas), but there seem to be a lot of other commonalities as well (too many to get into here). One James and Susan also is on the 1881 census then disappears, while the others can't be found until 1891. Does anyone have any information about either set of James and Susan Wylies?
