looking for families that had a THOMAS PAIN/PAYNE born 1820 to 1825 abt, He was born DOVER KENT stated on marriage cert in ADELAIDE SA AUSTRALIA. AGE 25yrs parents un-named occupation SAILOR>JAILOR>TAILOR. Cannot make out the first letter!!! he marrioed 1850, and i do not know how he came to be in OZZY. Cannot match him with a convict......Please if he is in someones family tree would love to hear from you.....SANDRA

William Frederick Relf b. 24.01.1855 in Dover Kent. Left England for Australia on 07.03.1878. I have found that there were Relf's in Australia before that date. Would like any info. of William's family. Thanks Angela

PC William SMEED died 1836

The Dover Borough Police site has the following entry:
"PC William Smeed. Died 16 July 1836. Fell into the harbour whilst patrolling his beat at night". I am trying to found out if the unfortunate soul was related to my Dover Smeeds. Does anyone know anything about him please?

Relf

I am looking for parents of Edward Relf 1816 - 20.02.1894. He was a Journey Man (one who has fully served his apprenticeship in a trade or craft and is qualified worker in anothers employ) / Cabinet maker who married Sarah Willis born 1815ish died 15.08.1869 aged 54. They had 7 children, Jane Elizabeth 01.07.1838, Edward Jnr. 1840 - 1912, Sarah 31.01.1843, Mary Ann 02.12.1844, John 27.09.1848, Emma Susannah 22.11.1852 and William Frederick 24.01.1855 who left for Australia in 1878. The 1841 Cencus shows Edward & Sarah both aged 25 and children Jane aged 2 and Edward aged 10 months living in High Street, Parish of Charlton Dover. The 1861 Cencus they lived at 2 Bowlinggreen Lane in the parish of St Mary's, Dover but no mention of wife or daughters Sarah and Jane, but adds Bertha (also known as Emma Bertha) born 24.05.1858 who is Jane's daughter. Edward (1816-1894)remarried to Sarah Ann 1825ish - 07.12.1892 aged 67. Their father also had a brother William Relf born 1813ish died in the workhouse 21.03.1902 aged 89, he was a Cabinet Maker. I'm not looking very far back, just looking for some information on the Blackman family, know have been in Dover for over a Century. My grandfather Arthur William Blackman (1923) is still in the area but would like some outside information about any ancestors older if anyone has it! He was married to Christine Shepherd until the early 50's when she died, then he remarried in 1958 to Valerie Plater (1930). The oldest Ancestor I know of is Arthur Thomas Blackman (died 1989 i believe), who built up the family business A.T. Blackman & Son Ltd. Any information would be of great help

I am looking for information on James Watts. I only discoverd this family member reecently and cant find any links. At the age of 19yrs he was a domestic servant for the Passingham family on Marine Parade,Dover.
On the 1871 census he was 8years with a relation called Phoebe Watts who was 40yrs old in Hillingdon.
James had a brother Charles aged 5 on the 1871 census also born Dover. I would be very grateul for any leads/information.Thanks.It may well be I have other relations in Dover I do not yet know of.Thanks

I am looking for any details about William GATEHOUSE b c1800 Dover who married Judith unknown b Dover c1805,and died in Dover Dec. 1840 and their children.
One child Rachel was baptised at St Mary's Church married Henry RATCLIFFE.
I have 115 GATEHOUSE relations in my tree but am unable to link Rachel and her family to them .Any help would be most welcome

Claude Coombes Gilpin born Dover 1881

He was born on the 9th September 1881 at Maxton, Hougham. Father Charles Coombes Gilpin and mother Mary Lucy Gilpin nee Jarman. Father was a Sergeant in the Royal Marine Artillery. He married Emily Caroline Bryant on the 5th June 1902 in Hampstead and served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during WW1. Do you know what happened to him after this? Thank you
