James Stemp
(Jun 08 Green)
My husband's paternal grandmother was Caroline Franklin, nee Stemp. Her father was James Stemp, born c1849 in Cranley (old spelling) Surrey. He married Mary Pannell in 1869 and they lived in Hersham, Surrey. I have established that his father's name was Thomas and his mother was Eliza, nee Finch. I cannot find his birth record, the Stemps were legion in the area at the time and I wonder if perhaps he was not registered. If anyone has any information about James and his father and family, I would be very happy to hear from them.

Oliver House- Cranleigh
(Apr 04
Red)
I am researching my family and my Great Grandparents William Thomas and Gertrude Alice BOXALL lived in Cranleigh on Ewhurst road in 1901 and I think at Oliver House in 1914. William was an ironmonger, and I want to know if he had his own shop, or ifhe worked as an employee. I see Manns ironmongers began in 1887- could he have worked for them?
Does anyone know the history of Oliver House? Was it a shop in 1914?
Regards,
Margaret
