Caisson Boat Lift
(Feb 08
Red)
Has anyone out there got any ancestors who helped build the Caisson Boat Lift on the Comb Hay canal in c1799? My 4xg grandparents John Brown and Anne Pyatt's wedding cert was witnessed by Robert Weldon, the inventor. The Brown family were carpenters and so I presume they were in on the project until 1871 when it all failed due to modernization (railways)this is when son Edwin and 2nd wife Rebecca Fell went to live at Dunkerton. Edwin's 1st wife Susannah Lye died in 1849.
