JOHN CAMPBELL
(Oct 09
Red)
Glasgow
Hi I am researching my great grandfather, John Campbell from Glasgow. He came to South Africa during the anglo zulu war and married my great grandmother, a cape malay slave and settled in Tsolo, a village in the Transkei (Eastern Cape), South Africa. He brought with him a family bible that had in it family history, a sample of kilt cloth, and the heather flower. This bible, however, got lost. From what I was told, he used to sing a song called "the campbells are comning from glasgow". He had a son (my grandfather) called Thomas. If you know of anyone john campbell who came to SA- as i said during the Anglo Zulu war (or it could be Anglo Boer war).

James Walker, born Oct 8, 1910
(Oct 09
Red)
Glasgow
I am seeking any information regarding background or relatives of my father, James Walker, born October 8, 1910 at 194 Duke Street, Glasgow (Lanarkshire). His mother was Helen Walker, a mill worker, father's name not given on birth certificate. No known siblings. His mother gave up my father to a working boys orphanage at a very young age; but I'm told she came to say goodbye to him before he boarded the boat to Canada at age 18.
Buildings formerly at 194 Duke Street (corner Melbourne Street) appear to be grazed-only a field remains whilst the former Kirkhaven Church still stands vacant, in ill repair and up for sale. Any information regarding my father/siblings? or pictures of buildings in that area during that period would be most welcome. Kindest regards.
