Cloncagh - Quaid
(Revised Apr 07 Green)
My grandmother Anne Quaid was born in Cloncagh on 22 Dec 1890. Her father was Timothy Quaid a farmer. She was the youngest child, as her mother died in her childbirth. Anne moved to Cork to train in drapery and went on to own her own hat shop, which she ran until she was in her eighties.
She married Nicholas Joseph Cotter in Oct 1919 in Cork and they went on to have three children, Kathleen Mary 1920, William Noel 1923 and Bridget Carmel Christina in 1926.
Gran told stories that the farm had been in the family for a couple of hundred years. It passed on to her brother Michael Quaid and then to his son Michael, who was a bachelor and so out of the family after his death.
