green mail Monaghan Family (Oct 09 Green)
My g.g/m Dorathea Monaghan was born abt 1865 in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, Ireland. She came out to Australia on the "Duke of Westminster" in 1884 to visit her Aunt, Uncle & cousin in a place called "Welcome Waterhole" near Cooktown, Nth Qld. But in 1887 on the 11th October in Cooktown, she married George Richard Beckerleg Dunstan. The M.C records Dorathea a Spinster age 22yrs and a Dressmaker, her father were Farrell Monaghan, Doctor of Medicine and mother Ellen Murphy. George was a Labourer aged 24yrs, his father was George Richard Dunstan, a Farmer and mother was Mary Ann Beckerleg from Cornwall, England where George was born in 1863. A Family story that has been handed down is that Dorathea and her siblings were "raised" by Nuns having not real home life, hence her reason for leaving Ireland.

red mail John Morrison of Ballymote (Aug 09 Red)
Hi, I am looking for details of a John Morrison born in 1795. Family members have indicated that he was from Ballymote, Sligo but I have not been able to find any documentation. He emigrated to Canada pre-1832 (based on a child born in 1832 in Thamesford, Ontario). He was married to Ellen born in Ireland but I do not know whether this took place in Canada or Ireland. I have also been told that he travelled to Canada with two brothers but again this cannot be confirmed as yet. Travel recoards at the time are limited. If anyone has information that can help my search I would be grateful. Peter

red mail Samuel Henderson of Ballymote, Ireland (Mar 08 Red)
Matthew and Samuel HENDERSON, born about 1801 and 1802 immigrated from Ballymote, Co. Sligo, Ireland to Canada about 1833. Matthew’s wife was Katherine, born Ireland, and all their children were born in East Nissouri Township. Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada. Samuel’s first child John was born in Ireland in 1829, but the rest were born in Canada starting in 1834. The gap between 1829 and 1834 may mean that Samuel went ahead to get established or his first wife died. The wife in Canada was Alice from Sligo, Ireland.
