Shufflebotham
(Revised Nov 07 Green)
I'm trying to prove the parenthood of James Shufflebotham b.1868 who married Harriet Shufflebotham b.c.1872, in 1896 at the Parish Church , Biddulph Moor and in 1899 had my Father-in-Law, Abraham William Shufflebotham. On the marriage certificate he gives his Father as being William Bailey. Is this his true Father or Stepfather ? I have a birth certificate for James , born to a Sarah Shufflebotham with no Father put down. On the 1881, 1891 census I have found a James with the correct birth date, occupation etc. living with his Grandmother, Mary Pointon b.c.1812 and also a Sarah ( on the 1881 census only ) Shufflebotham. Sarah was b.c 1840. I thought initially that William Bailey and Sarah Shufflebotham had married but I cannot find any certificate or positive evidence to say they did BUT I did find an entry for a death for a Sarah and of the right age, for 1887. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the William Bailey.
Thanks, Alison
