green mail DUDGEON, Thompson & Russell (Oct 09 Green)
I am seeking information on the Dudgeon family of Berwick, especially Margaret Dudgeon b 1866 daughter of Robert Dudgeon (farmer) and his wife Margaret, nee Thompson. Robert was born in 1823 and Margaret in 1826, both in Berwick. Robert was the son of John & Elisabeth Dudgeon (John b 1786 and Elizabeth in 1791). The 1841 census shows John & ELizabeth living in Castlegate. The 1851 census shows Robert & Margaret living in Poor House Lane. By the time, their daughter, MARGARET DUDGEON was born they were living in Featherbed Lane. She married Alexander Russell of Newcastle. Other members of this family were either bakers or fishmongers. As far as I can ascertain members of the Dudgeon family were still in Berwick up until WW2. Any information appreciated. thank you.

green mail John Tate (Apr 09 Green)
I am seeking information on John Tate who was possibly born in Berwick on Tweed in 1785. When old enough he was apprenticed for five years to a grocer in Berwick named John Bird. He later joined the Royal Navy and in 1807, whilst still serving in the navy, he married Mary Lewin in Prittlewell, Essex. After leaving the navy he settled in Essex for a number of years before returning, with his family, to Berwick where he joined the whaling ship believed to be the LIVELY and was lost when the ship went down with all hands somewhere off Greenland in 1827. Does anyone know of the existance of a ships muster for the Lively for around this period or any infomationon on John Tate or family or even John Bird.
