Barlows and Marlands in Astley
(Apr 05
Red)
I would very much like further information on the genealogy of John Barlow born c.1809, a boatman who married Alice Gore b.1815 in Liverpool on 19 May 1834 and settled in Astley, near Manchester. He had a son Richard Barlow, born in Lymm, Cheshire in 1846 and who married Elizabeth (Granny) Barlow on 8 November 1868 in Astley.Their daughter Mary, born 1869 married my great grandfather Peter Marland born 1867, son of Robert Marland and Betty (Betsey) Green. As this Barlow family worked on the canals it has been difficult to trace them. Richard Barlow was later a hay and corn dealer in Astley.
I am also stuck with the Marlands of Astley/Tyldesley.
I have been able to trace the Marlands of Astley back to 6 January 1731 when John Marland was married to Alice Heys in Tyldesley near Leigh. He was born before 1707, but I don't know where. Alice was born in Leigh in 1697. John had a brother Joshua, I think. Many thanks for any help!

My Great Grandfather Richard Grundy was born in Astley Green in 1823. He married Mary Ann Ellis at Eccles Parish Church in 1846, in the 1851 and 1861 census he is a Beerhouse Keeper in Carruthers St Manchester. On his wedding cirtificate his fathers name is David Grundy, occupation Boatman, so perhaps he worked on the Bridgewater canal from Astley Green. Any information about family and and canal workers please.
