In April 1904 a Mission Hall was opened, now named Ashingdon United Free Church. The original trustees were Alfred Poulton, furrier, of Hillcrest, Ashingdon, John Jolly, farmer, of Moon's Farm, Ashingdon, Hugh Crawford, farmer, of Smith's Farm, Ashingdon and Charles Weight, fruit merchant, of Thorndean, Ashingdon. Later pre-1939 trustees were Henry John Falkus, decorator, of Highfield, South Fambridge, James Service, builder, of Hockley, William Moore, builder, of Ashingdon, Arthur Henry Marshall, postmaster, of Post Office, Ashingdon, Sarah Weight, Walter Christopher Waller of Craignethan, Ashingdon, James Crawford, farmer, of Fambridge Hall, South Fambridge and Herbert Henry Wardell of Pulpits Farm, Hockley
