green mail Johnson leather merchant of Beverley (Feb 09 Green) Beverley
I believe that the marriage in St Andrew by the Wardrobe of Betsey Sharman and Thomas Johnson on 14 Feb 1853 was in my ancestral tree. I now know that this is right she was a victualler from Grandborough. He was a leather merchant living in Beverley in Yorkshire. He appears to have originated from Alresford in hampshire, and his father may very well have been a Rev William Johnson. Thomas had a son Thomas Garnier Johnson, who was in the same trade. His daughter married into the Barrett-Lennard family of Canada, so it is possible that late in the nineteenth century Thomas Garnier and his family moved to Manitoba.
