Abingdon Cycle Works
(Jun 09
Red)
Can anyone help me find any information about "The Abingdon Cycle Works". I have found a photo which had been hidden behind an equally old photo of some ancient relatives. It shows a man standing proudly outside the shop. I've a feeling he may be a relative, maybe a Meagher?

Hays Family Butcher/farmer
(Mar 09
Red)
Would like to hear from anyone who has connections or information regarding the Hays family in Abingdon.Albert Hays was a butcher and had a business in Abingdon centre in and around 1911.I also remember my father taking me to visit 'Peter' at a farm near Abingdon way back in 1950s.That is all I remember, I am uncertain whether this is conncted with the Hays family.
My grandmother was Edith Hays (one of Albert's daughters).and my father's mother.
This side of our family is very sparse and I am trying to piece odd bits of information and memory together.I am hoping that descendants of my grandmother still live in the Abingdon area and might read this and get in touch.
Thank you, Richard.

Henry James born 1840
(Mar 09 Green)
I am researching Henry James born in St Helen's Abingdon on 14 September 1840. His father was Richard James (a stonemason) born 1801 and his mother was Elizabeth born 1791. He had two brothers Richard and William and one sister Sarah. I think he married twice - the first time to Emma in Abingdon and the second to Priscilla Jane in Bampton - but I cannot confirm this. He had two children by Priscilla - a son Henry James Johnson and a daughter Sarah James. I would be grateful for any information.

Does anyone know anything about Henry J Brooks photography studio that used to be in High Street, Abingdon? I have a couple of beautiful Victorian family photo albums, most of which are un-named, but I can see that they were taken at this studio. I would love to know where I can go for further information. Regards. Nicky
