The death took place at Roodlands Hospital, Haddington on Thursday 2nd of February after a brief illness, of Mr Cornelius Smith, J.P., the Post Office, Aberlady, who took an active interest in the life of the community for over half a century.
A native of Aberlady Mr Smith held the position of Postmaster for a considerable number of years, being well known and greatly respected.For many years he served on North Berwick District Council and for 40 years was Session clerk of Aberlady Parish Church. Mr Smith is survived by his wife Minnie, his son Tom and two daughters Vera and Connie.
The funeral to Aberlady Churchyard tookplace from the Church on Monday afternoon, and was attended by a large gathering of mourners. The service was conducted by the Rev Thomas Caldwell, who also officiated at the graveside.
PULPIT TRIBUTE
