Carter family of Winchester
I am looking for information on my great great grandmothers family, Emma baptised 1831 St Maurice, Winchester to mother Sarah PHILPOT, a few months before her mother married Edward CARTER. She was brought up with the CARTER surname, so I suspect Edward was the father. There is no trace of a death for Edward and I can find no other mention of him. The two children of the marriage are with their grandmother in 1841. I think mother Sarah may have remarried.
I have been researching my family history for about fifteen years, and do a one-name study on my grandmothers name of SCOREY. My families are mainly from Hampshire & Sussex, names of HORNER, LEE, CHEESMAN, MUSSELWHITE, ORMAN, PASSFIELD, some from Hertfordshire & Northamptonshire, WYLIE, DRAGE and RANDALL, from Yorkshire, WAYRE, most of whom ended up in London. My STEER(E) line is a brick wall with a William c1820 probably born in SE England. I am a member of three family history societies, the Guild of One-Name Studies, and the Society of Genealogists who have a fantastic Library.
