JOHN campbell - Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Hi I am researching my great grandfather, John campbell from Glasgow. He came to South Africa during the anglo zulu war and married my great grandmother, a cape malay slave and settled in Tsolo, a village in the Transkei (Eastern Cape), South Africa. He brought with him a family bible that had in it family history, a sample of kilt cloth, and the heather flower. This bible, however, got lost. From what I was told, he used to sing a song called "the campbells are comning from glasgow". He had a son (my grandfather) called Thomas. If you know of anyone john campbell who came to SA- as i said during the Anglo Zulu war (or it could be Anglo Boer war).

John campbell - Cira 1771 - Rhuddlan, Flintshire
John campbell came from Campbeltown where I believe he was born, and at some point Married Janet Dobie, shortly after this event they both moved to Rhuddlan in North Wales. For several years I have been looking for John and Janet in completely the wrong area. However, I recently found a baptism record for one of their children that states John was from Campbeltown. I would be grateful if there is anyone out there with any information regarding this. Regards Kevin

campbell - Uidh, Inverness-shire
My GGG G-Father was Captain Kenneth campbell, "Kenneth of the Uidh" on the island of Taransay (Tarasaigh). I have very little information on his critical dates, but know that he was the master of a schooner that moored at Loch Uidhe, and that he traded with a cousin Donald campbell in the Carolinas in the 1870's. Kenneth married Catherine MacDonald, of whom I know nothing.
Kenneth's full gaelic descendancy is Choinneach mac Alasdair mhic Choinnich mhic Dhomhnaill mhic Iain Oig then mhic Iain mhic choinneach. Kenneth,. son of Alexander, son of Kenneth, son of Donald, son of Iain Og, and further Iain Og son of Iain son of Kenneth.
Kenneth's son Domhnall Bodhar (Deaf Donald)was apparently killed in a brawl at Dunvegan Castle (no other detail known.
Somewhere circa 1830/1840, Kenneth and his daughter Margaret (Peggy of the Uidhe)(1780/Abt1853)gave up the farm at the Uidhe on Taransay and moved to a farm at Maraig and then to Eilleananabuich (Possibly 5 Eilleananabuich). Peggy married
Norman Macleod of Huisinis - perhaps whilst at Maraig or at Eilleananabuich.
I would appreciate any help with respect to these ancestors of mine.
Stuart

William John campbell - Antrim, County Antrim
William John and his brother Robert immigrated to Canada in the early to mid 1800s. The story is they sent money back to Ireland for their parents and siblings, who all got on the ship but it never arrived in Canada. William settled in Fitzroy Habour, on. and Robert across the ottawa river QC. The only record i can find about where they were born was County Antrim.
I am trying to find if there is any of their family left in Ireland.

Descendants of Matthew campbell and Mary Hazelwood - Pembrokeshire, Sir Benfro (PEM, County, Wales, Cymru), Pembrokeshire, Sir Benfro
I am seeking details of any descendants of Matthew campbell, (1763-1823)who was Collector of Customs at Pembroke. He had no legitimate children but at least three illegitimate children. I am particularly interested in any details of his son George who was born at Pembroke on 9th July 1812 and baptised at St Mary's, Pembroke, on 17th July 1812. George's mother was Mary Patterson, an illegitimate child who was baptised at St Mary's in 1798. She married William Hazelwood or Hasslewood, a shipwright at Pembroke Dockyard on 5th April 1818. George lived in the Hazelwoods' household for several years but I have no record of what happened to him. He seems to have disappeared from local records. William Hazelwood abandoned his family about 1823 and was said to have gone to America. Mary Hazelwood eventually married John Row or Rowe, bachelor of Pembroke, on 25th September 1833. She may have been the mother of Jane Rowe, the daughter of John Rowe, joiner, who was baptised at St Mary's on 6th May 1836, but I am not sure. She was alive in 1841 because records show that she was then in Gaol but what happened to her after her release, or when she died, I do not know.
Another of Matthew campbell's illegitimate children was William campbell, the son of Elizabeth Roch, known as "Bessy", a prostitute of Pembroke. William campbell was born on 24th October 1818 and baptised at St Mary's on 19th March 1819. He was still alive in March 1827 when the parish paid for clothing for him.
Any information about any of these people will be very gladly received.
