18th C "Lifeboat House" & Alt Maritime Families - Formby, Lancashire
In 1777 William Hutchinson had the old Lifeboat house on Formby Shore repaired, and installed a full-time keeper. "Repaired" implies it existed a substantial time beforehand, in which case local mariners who worked fishing vessels and small trading ships out of the Alt presumably operated a rescue service. Were members of your family mainly sailors/fishermen out of the Alt in the earlier 18thC? If so, they may have a place in seafaring history which has so far gone unrecognised.
Aindows were the lifeboat heroes of the later 19th C - does anyone know if they were fishermen in the earlier 18th C? Or were your ancestors another old Altcar/Ravenmeols family who all worked local waters in the first half of the 18th C? If so, there may be an undiscovered story to tell about their role in developing the first Lifeboat Station in Britain.
Also interested in Black Dog on the Shore "legends" passed down in your own family. R. Whittington-Egan turned it into a "Hound from Hell" story, which looks like he did too much reading and too little listening. Did your grandparents tell you about the Black Dog, and what did they say?

The information I have is that my G G Granddad born in Walton on the Hill Formby Married Hariette Crowhurst in 1854 at St Johns in the parish of St Johns Waterloo and subsequent to that lived in 1861 in St Margrets Rochester. In 1871 he was living at Delce Road Rochester Occupation given then Fish Hawker (What was that). 1881 he was living at 7 Burritt Street Rochester, there doesnt seem to be any log of what he did for a living after that that i can find.
Also his son Anthony born 1858 had a child through an affair he had with the house keeper brigit clarke nee Pettitt and had a son who he named Anthony born 1886 who i would also like to find informtion on.
