addison'S CUTLERS OF CLERKENWELL/HOLBORN? - Clerkenwell, Middlesex
In 1823 a member of the addison family, Thomas, is listed as a partner in "addison& Bra(u)mbley' Grindery Warehouse. The partnership was dissolved in Sept 1823. (London Gazette 1823) Thomas may have been either my ggg-grandfather or my gg grandfather Thomas Plummer addison. Another, unknown to us, S addison, is listed as 'cutler' 1827-28. Also in 1828, Robert addison is listed as a 'steel grinder and polisher of stoves'. In September 1838, Thomas Plummer addison emigrated to South Australia but there was a still listing for "addison Thos & Robert Steam Polishing Mills 36 Leather Lane".)I am almost positive that Robert was Thomas Plummer's brother. T.P addison (Baptismal Records, St Andrews Holborn) lived at 32 Leather Lane 1831-1832 and at 4 Dorrington Streer from at least 1834 to 1838 when he immigrated to South Australia. In those records he is described variously as a 'steel plate maker'and 'a table knife blade maker'. And on his immgration papers , seemingly more grandly as 'an engineer'. I would very much like to find out more about the Dorrington Street/Leather Lane of that era. I would especially like to identify the mysterious 'S' addison whom I have been unable to trace in the 1841 or 1851 Censuses.
