She married Walter KIRBY in 1906 and they emigrated to Perth, Western Australia in 1950, presumably to join their children who had settled there. Tracing the Family adams - Woolwich, Kent
Im trying to trace my relatives who were living in the Woolwich/Plumstead area as far back as the 1870s. The family surname is adams and the first trace is in the 1871 Census when they lived at No 5 Globe Lane just by the side of the Woolwich Ferry. The area has of course is gone now and I think has been replaced by the Royal Arsenal Gardens by the side of Warren Lane.
My Great Great Grandfather was a William Henry adams who was an Engine Driver with the Steam Packet Company, probably the Watermens Steam Packet company originally and finally called the London Steamboat company. His children George, Alexander, Reuben and Charles my Great Grandfather were all Watermen & Lightermen and eventually George adams became Captain of the Woolwich Ferry probably around the early 1900s. Henry adams died around 1890-1 and His wife Ann Jane (nee McKEE) moved to Brook Hill Place Woolwich and lived there with her son Charles adams.
Alexander adams and wife Elizabeth (nee HUSSEY), and George adams and wife Ann (nee HUSSEY) lived in Paradise Place around 1900. George and family eventually ended up in Genesta Road in Plumstead, where he died in about 1925. Alexander adams died before 1901 and Elizabeth had moved to Rectory Grove Woolwich.
Charles adams married his wife Alexandra Mathilda (nee ALVAREZ) in 1892 in the Woolwich Registry Office and by 1901 they had moved across the river and were living at 18 Ford Street, Canning Town. By 1911 they had moved to 100 Ravenscroft Road Canning Town were they were heavily bombed during WWII and were evacuated.
