Bradshaw Family, mid 1700's
- Abergavenny
Y Fenni
I have a will of FRANCIS BRADSHAW,dated 1740.He apparently was the 5th son of WILLIAM BRADSHAW.Francis was a lawyer at Gray's Inn an London,he also had a farm in Gestingthorpe in Essex, but wanted to be buried in Abergavenny, near his family. He was notmarried, and probably did not have any children. He must have also rented the property he lived in in London,as it is not bequeathed to anyone. The only link I can get with my family is the amount of "Lewis's"he leaves his money and property to,as I have some of them. Also why would I have a copy of his will if he was not an ancester?I am going to Abergavenny next week(06.08.02)to do some more research and will add to this if I find out any more.Is there anyone there who can help me along with this?

Phillips
- Abergavenny, Y Fenni
The Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1776 (including Emigrants in Bondage) –
The Complete Book of Emigrants, 1661-1699 by Peter Wilson Coldham.
Chapter 3, Page 107
21 August 1662.
The following apprenticed in Bristol: Roger Phillips to William Flower, 4 years Virginia
In 1675, the above mentioned Roger Phillips and his wife, Dorothy Clark were living in the new colony of Maryland in Somerset County. he named his 1st parcel/land patent "Abergavveny".
I have to believe that this indicated Roger Phillips lived in and left from Abergavveny in about 1662. There are no other listed documents that show his UK origin.
Who would have records from that time frame as I am looking for the names of his parents. Roger named his sons, all born in Somerset County Maryland, Thomas, Richard, Roger & Henry
Regards,
Ben, US

Martha of Abergavenny
- Abergavenny, Y Fenni
My g.g. grandmother was called Martha, married to Henry Cole of Kingsbridge in Devon. Both emigrated to Gibraltar and were eventually buried there. The grave refers to Martha Cole of Abergavenny. I believe Martha was born around 1840, but am unsure of her maiden name. I had thought it was Rushworth, but cannot find records of that surname in Abergavenny. Perhaps her family just lived there before she moved away. I'd love to hear if anyone can make a connection! Jenny
