Wynn/Wynne family from Aberderfyn/Ponciau (Ponkey)/Rhosllanerchrugog - (Rhosllanerchrugog - Denbighshire)
I have traced my WYNN/WYNNE family back to Rhos. My great great grandfather was William Wynne (born c.1792), an engineer, who lived and died (1839) in Aberderfyn. Some of his children were born while they were recorded as living in Ponciau (sometimes anglicised to Ponkey) (which probably is the same place as Aberderfyn). On an old hand-drawn map of Rhos in 1835 drawn by John Platt in 1865 and published in 1895, you can see a steam-powered winch at at pit in Ponkey, with his name by it ("Pyllau soni y Ponkey Wil Wynne engineer"), and there's also a large field of about 5-7 acres called "Cae Wil. Wynne", stretching between where I guess Princess Road and Johnson Street are today, in the centre of Rhos (also shown on OS Map 1879, Grid Ref: 329200,346516), where Plas-yn-Rhos is today, I believe. I would love to learn more about this. Any local historians out there?

John and Sarah Jones - (Rhosllanerchrugog - Denbighshire)
Hi, my great, great, great grandparents were John and Sarah Jones (nee Parish) born in 1812 and 1814 respectively. In 1851 Sarah is on the census in Backe,Corwen with her daughter Margaret and son Uriah (my great great grandfather) whilst John is in Stalybridge, Manchester working with his brother Richard, both were tailors. From 1861 to 1891 John and Sarah are on the Census living at Erw Gerrig in Rhosslanerchrugog, Their daughter Margaret married Thomas Jones of Llangollen and they lived in Rhos, bringing up 5 children. Thomas is a coal miner (don't know at which pit) The youngest son Richard Jones marries Mary Roberts in 1891 and their daughter Mary Jane was born that year. The last address for them is 125 Erw Gerrig, Richard was also a coal miner. John and Sarah died before 1901 as they do not appear on the census again. The last occupation for John was a Carter. John had a brother Richard (known as Jones the Tailor) born in Cefn around 1820. His residence was in Stalybridge, Manchester. If anyone knows any further history of this family i.e. John and Sarah's parents etc., i would be more than interested. I am visiting Rhos very soon to see this fascinating village of my ancestors.

If there is anybody out there working on the genealogy for the Jones' family from Rhosllanerchrugog, I would love to hear from them. My grandmother, Elsie Annie Jones (b.1899) had 3 sister (Dilys, Flossie & Sarah) and 1 brother, Jonathan her father was Pryce Mitchell Jones (b.1873) and his father was Jonathan (b.1835). Prior to this date I am relying on church records which have raised some queries. In 1911 the family lived at Greenfield Cottage, Beech Avenue and Pryce was the auxiliary postman. Hope somebody can help.

JONES/Rhostyllen - (Rhostyllen - Denbighshire)
I am trying to track down my JONES ancestors from Rhostyllen. My JONES/Rhostyllen interest is mainly in my gg grandmother, Eliza JONES, born in Rhostyllen (probably 1818 to 1824), the daughter of John JONES, a stone mason. She married Charles WYNNE at Gresford Parish Church on 28 Dec 1844, when she was recorded as living in Gwersyllt. Eliza died on 7 Nov 1896, and is buried in St. Paul's Church, Broughton. I have no information on her (other than her father's name and trade) or her family prior to the marriage. Charles's grandaughter did visit some JONES cousins (Samuel and Llewelyn), in New York between 1912 and 1930, but I don't know if they connect through Eliza. Charles probably had a sister, Elizabeth (c1838, d1876), who married a Jesse JONES, a joiner from Coed Poeth, on 2nd March 1860 at Abbott Street Chapel, Wrexham. Jesse was the son of Thomas JONES, a miner. When Elizabeth died, her death was reported by brother-in-law, John JONES. I don't know if this was the same one as above. Elizabeth and Jesse's children included Wynn, Emma, Llewelyn (possibly the same as above) and Elizabeth. If anyone can fill in any gaps, that would be wonderful. Best wishes, John
