James Bruce Of Airth - Airth
I am seeking information on a James Bruce who lived in Airth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. According to the written record of a granddaughter he may have been born around 1750-55. He married a Margaret Hendrie. They had seven children: Robert (remained single), James (1780-1848), Henry (remained single), William (1793-1868 - my anscestor), John, Alexander (1800-1869), Janet (died young). The three men with dates listed emigrated to America, the elder two in 1840, the latter in 1842. They all settled in or near Wooster, Ohio.

Does anyone have a connection to the Kemps from the Airth, Bothkennar or Falkirk areas? - egs, James Kemp b 1827 Airth (married to Anne Dick), his children John Kemp b 1852, Margaret b 1854, Jane b 1856 or James Kemp b 1859. John Kemp married Elizabeth McLaren and they had at least 9 children born between 1978 and 1900 - two of the Kemp sons emigrated to Canada I think. Looking for any matches to Annie Winslow born about 1845 to Charles Winslow and Catherine Mc Cairney who died in Falkirk and Airth in 1879 and 1875.Charles and Catherine were originally from Ireland. Catherines parents were Francis Mc Cairney and Mary O'Connor. Other children of Charles were Danny, Michael, Helen, Margaret, Mary and Catherine.

East Stirlingshire FC and Canal Bank, Bainsford - Bainsford
I am currently doing some research into the origins of East Stirlingshire FC (originally called Britannia). I am aware that they started off in Bainsford in 1880. A large number of the initial team lived in or around Canal Bank, Bainsford. However, I am unable to pinpoint this location from maps of the time. I believe that Canal Bank made have been just to the East of Bainsford bridge (not sure on which side of the canal) and it may just have been houses that either Falkirk Iron Works or Castle Laurie Iron Works put up for their workers. I am also interesting in finding out the exact location of the Burnhouse area of Falkirk/Bainsford in 1880.

My G/Grandfather was James BROWN b.10 Aug 1818 in Balfron, who married Catherine BROCK (b.7 Dec 1830 in Drymen) 5 Nov 1852 in Drymen. My Grandfather was their son, James BROWN, b.23 May 1859 in Drymen, who married Elizabeth MAXTON, (b.8 Sep 1874 in Muthill) on 8 Jul 1894.

WILKIE, Paul Stewart - Balfron
Born in Balfron c.1892 to Hugh Wilkie (watchmaker and jeweller) and Jane (nee Paul). He was a motor engineer. Married my g.mother (Mary Gordon Campbell of Cambuslang) in 1926. They had two daughters Helen and (I think) Doris in 1930s.Gmother died late 1930s possibly in childbirth. Any info much appreciated.

Thomas ARBUCKLE circa 1814-1888 & his wife Rebecca DARKIES c. 1817-1889 were both born in County Tyrone, Ireland. It is not known if they married there, or in Stirlingshire, Scotland. It is known that their children were born in the latter. John c.1843 in Kilsyth, Thomas c.1847 James c.1849 Rebecca c. 1852 and Samuel 1855 all in BALFRON. The family all appear to have gone to the Glasgow area.Thomas & Rebecca both died there in the St Rollox area. John married Martha Hector KENNEDY & Miss WADDELL; Thomas m. Isabella Napier SCOTT; James m.Jane MURRAY; Samuel m. Jane REID & Sarah Thomson FLETT and Rebecca, my ggrandmother married a John NIVEN, 1874 in Milton, Glasgow. Grandparents William and Elizabeth Stewart ne Burns. of Balfron, he died there in 1858, was born in Balfron and is buried in churchyard there, unfortunately I dont have name of this. James Gillies, born abt 1811 married Marion Garrow around 1835. They had 4 children James Brown born abt 1835, William born abt 1839, Andrew born abt 1840 and Helen born abt 1843. It appears Marion died between 1841 and 1851. James and Marion along with their three eldest children appear in the 1841 census but there is no entry for Marion in the 1851 census. James and his four children migrated to Australia on the 'White Star' which departed Liverpool 1855. Any information on any of the above much appreciated.

We have an interesting ancestor who lived in Campsie (Lennoxtown). He was Cornelius Friel born in Ireland and he was a limestone miner. Cornelius married Janet Dempsey (who we think was a local girl) at Kilsyth in 1866. They had Robert born 1868 in Kilsyth and Charles born in Campsie 1870 and daughters Mary Jane born in Campsie 1873 and Rebecca born in Campsie 1877 and a son Michael born in 1879 Campsie. We know that Rebecca married William Gallacher date unknown and Mary Jane married John Barr on July 14th 1893. We have no clue yet what happened to the oldest and youngest sons. Charles we know was married twice his first wife being Margaret Creamer and his second wife was Annie Steele.We keen to know more about what happened to Margaret and when Charles married her and his marriage date to Annie. Charles was a steam ship winch man and lived at 198 Morin St Lennoxtown until his death in 1921 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.If anyone else shares these ancestors we are always keen to learn more, just contact us through this site.
