Robert James 1782 convict to australia - (Alves - Morayshire)
am looking for information on Robert James believed to have been born 27/6/1782 at Brylach or Bralack, Endinkillie, Morayshire.
Does anyone know where Brylach or Bralack was or is?
Any details on Robert James parents? He married Catherine Flanagan in l801 and was transported to Australia in l824 because of theft and was never allowed to leave the Wollongong/Illawarra area. Any help appreciated.

They had a son, James McKenzie, born Burghead, 23 February 1872 - died Plantation, Glasgow, 1917.
James McKenzie (b1849) second married Elizabeth Main on 25 September 1876. They had 8 children. Parents of Elizabeth Main were John Main and Mary McPherson, married 30 November 1843. Interested in McKenzie / Hendry / Main - families from Ardersier or Burghead.

Looking for more on the Duncan family James Duncan and Jean (Jane) Johnston/Johnson who were born around 1780 and had at least two children John Gregor Duncan born in Burghead or Hopeman in 1815. Records say Hopeman, he says Burghead in 1871 census. Also his sister Margaret Duncan b. 1817 who married John Inch and had 5 children by him after having had a seemingly illegitimate daughter Margaret Morrison in 1841.

looking for ancestors of alshur tulloch - (Dyke - Morayshire)
Alshur tulloch is mentioned three times on
marriage certificates - 1634 -1636 -1651.I have the names of his children who are direct descendants but cannot find anymore info on him.
It is believed he came from dyke-findhorn area but could be anywhere between inverness and dyke as he moved around.

William Edmondstoune Aytoun he was born at Edinburgh 21st June 1813 and died near Elgin 4th August 1865. A Scottish lawyer, poet and man of letters. He was one of the editors of - Blackwood's Magazine - Professor of Rhetoric and Belles-Lettres in the University of Edinburgh, and sheriff of Orkney. His chief works are - Lays of the Cavaliers 1848 - Firmillian 1854 - Bothwell 1856 - Ballads of Scotland 1858. He was associated with Theodore Martin in the production of the 'Bon Gaultier Ballads' and the 'Poems and Ballads of Goethe.'

Isabella Christie schoolteacher and grocer - (Elgin - Morayshire)
I am looking for information on Isabella Christie, who was born in Elgin in 1863, daughter of John Christie and his wife Helen Ellis. Isabella was a school teacher in Heisker, Lochmaddy and Kinloch Rannoch between about 1883 and 1897, after which she returned to Thomshill near Elgin to look after her mother. She had 5 brothers and sisters living with her mother in 1891, they were Elizabeth, John, Annie, George and Alex. Isabella took over her mother's grocer's shop in Thomshill after her mother died in 1900 and she stayed there until 1910. I would like to know what happened to Isabella after this.

Am looking for information on James Mackenzie born c1852 in Elgin. Parents James Mackenzie and Elizabeth Wiseman. James was my great grandfather. He evidently came to Australia between 1861 and 1874 as he married Elizabeth Cooney in 1874 in Ballarat Victoria Australia. He was a blacksmith. He had 9 children in Australia. I am looking for info regarding William Fraser Grant b. 1873 (Edinburgh) and his wife Maria Campbell b. 1871 (Edinburgh). They married on December 6, 1889. Maria died in 1948. William's parents were William Grant b. 1839 at Elgin (Craigellachie)and Margaret - possible surname McGill. Maria Campbell's parents were James Campbell and Margaret Inglis, Inglis probably being Margaret's name from a previous marriage rather than her maiden name. Maria had a step-sister called Alice Inglis. The parents of William Grant from Elgin may have been James Grant, b. 1796 and Jane(t) Masson b. 1806. Neither James nor Jane(t) were born in Elgish although their six children were - John, Alex, James, Margaret, Robert and the said William.

My Campbell family is:
John Campbell b. about 1819 - born Morayshire, (possibly Elgin) but parents and place of birth unknown. Died 07 April 1847 at Elgin.
John married Ann Matthew/Matthews (daughter of James Matthew & Jean Simpson) in Elgin on 25 May 1839. Ann was bapt. 18 Oct. 1814 at Elgin and died at 119 Dundee St., Edinburgh, aged 79 yrs.
Children of John & Ann were:
1. James Campbell b. 07 March 1840 Elgin. Died 10 Feb. 1904, Edinburgh. James married Ann McPherson 16 Jan 1866, in Carse of Ardersier, County of Inverness.
2. John Campbell b. 15 May 1841, Elgin. died 04 May 1870, New Elgin. Married but wife unknown.
3. Ann Campbell b. 15 Jan 1843, Nairn, Nairn.
4. Robert "Alexander" b. 01 Sept. 1844, Forres, Moray. Married Barbara Smart 03 Jan 1868, Leslie, Fife.
5. William Ferguson Campbell b. about 1847/1848 in Elgin.
It is believed that John Campbell had a brother Alexander who married Ann WINK of Elgin, Moray.
By 1871 this Campbell family had moved to Edinburgh. Mother Ann and daughter ran a grocery store, James was builder, John in the 93rd highlanders, Alexander owned a tailoring business and William was a cooper.

John had 2 brothers, Alexander (b. 24-6-1760) and James (b. 17-12-1763) and 1 sister, Janet (chr. 14-7-1753). Their father was also John (chr. in Alves 2-2-1715. I am trying to trace anyone connected to Aurthur (Jack) Jackson.
He originated from Market Harborough in Leicestershire and was believed to marry in Elgin in maybe the end of the 1950`s.

g g father John Hay arrived in South Africa 4 Nov 1877 Aboard ship Dublin Castle. Married (1886) Janet Tenant (B 4/4/1863-7/11/1956)(Goldbourne Park). Had 7 children Cora (9/03/1887-16/4/1954), Elsie (29/7/1888-5/12/1964), Janet (3/11/1889- June 1978), Gordon (31/5/1892-July 1971), George (25/4/1893-12/11/1956), Lossie (19/9/1894- ?), Tom (5/6/1894-05/10/1969). John Hay had Hay's Bakery. I was told his brother had Hays biscutes. I am the grandaughter of Tom Hay. I was told my G G father was from Elgin Scotland and Janet Tenant from Edinburg.Any help would be appreciated. My Aunt Janet Tenant Hay never married but was an artist (paintings) she lived in Durban in South Africa. I have 3 brothers Stephen Tenant, Bruce Elgin and Richard Miles Hay. Hugh Fraser (or Frazer) - (Elgin - Morayshire)
I am looking for information on Hugh Fraser (Frazer/Frazier),b about 1757 possibly in Forres. He married Janet Mackqueen in Forres on 16th May 1778. He was later a miller at Pittendrich, where he died on 30th October 1814. He was buried in Elgin Cathedral churchyard, but there is apparently no gravestone.
They had a son John,b about 1782, who moved to Cardross, Dunbartonshire, where he married Elizabeth Lennox on 20th December 1812.

Looking for info on a John Main who married an Isabella Grant
They had children Ann, William (who married Jessie Wright), John (who married Hannah Fairlie), and David (who married Marjory Kemp)
I believe his parents to be John Main & Jane Masson.
I have a DOB of 15th Dec 1839, but I do not think this can be correct as his children were being born barely 10 years later !
Any info would be greatly appreciated, also a date when he was married to Isabella Grant.
