I am researching the Gardiner family who lived in carrington in the nineteenth century. Janet gardiner had an illegitimate son, william gardiner c.1861 who married mary henderson (mothers maiden name oliver) in 1884 at carrington. They had at least seven children, one who is believed to have drowned in crichton loch. Their second oldest son, william, (my great-granpa) married christina wilson in peebles, where they remained. George gardiner also stayed in Peebles. Mary henderson died in 1950 at gullane.

Her parents were Ebnezer and Mary Scott. Andrew had four brothers: James b. 1818, Ebnezer b. 1819, Alexander b. 1821, and Abraham b. 1823. Andrew came to America in 1843. He married Hosette Garreau in the Dakota Territory. He had sons James and Thomas and sent them to Scotland for their education. He had a daughter Josie who was not educated. He then retired to Scotland in 1864 and died in Delkeith in 1871. I would like to correspond with anyone having any information on this family.
