I am looking for information about Helen Nicholl who lived at 83 Green street glasgow in 1932.Helen i think was formerly a Fleming, daughter of James Fleming and Winifred ( nee Watson). I believe Helen to be the older sister of my Grandfather John Fleming who moved south to England around 1945. Thomsons from Gorbals, Lanark - Gorbals
Alexander Thomson was a professor of theology at the University of Edinburgh; I have not yet established where he was born, and that is part of my purpose for posting. He married Emma Jane East (b 1819, Birmingham) and they had 5 children: Emma Morell Mackenzie Thomson b 1844, William Alexander East Thomson 1845, Emily Gertrude Thomson 1845, Ann Baldwin Thomson 1848-1932 (my great grandmother), and Helen L (Nellie) Thomson. Ann and Nellie are shown as being born in Gorbals, Lanark. At the time of the 1881 census, he was living in Chorlton on Medlock, Lancashire. I would like any information at all on Alexander and his son William. Emma, Emily, and Nellie had no children--Ann was the only sister who did, and she died young. Any descendants of William out there?

My grandfather Alexander Hughes was last seen in 1934, when his 23 year old wife Mary Graham Kane died. At this point they stayed in Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton Glasgow. I think he may then have joined the |Merchan Navy - not sure. I think he may have remarried and I am keen to know any information about his subsequent family.

Peter Colville married Catherine Clarke in Glasgow 29.06.1826. Peter was later the engineer at the Govan Silk Factory. Their children, all born at Govan, were:- Catherine (1830), Janet (1831), William (1833), Charlotte (1837), Elizabeth (1838), Jane Park (1841), Euphemia (1844) and Mary (1851). Catherine married Daniel Macaulay at Govan Free Church on 16.07.1855.

My BARNES family moved from Kilmarnock to Govan sometime between 1881 & 1883. Samuel and Sarah BARNES, who already had Samuel (b.1879 Kilmarnock) and John (b. 1881 Kilmarnock), had 3 more children, all in Govan: Robert (1883); Margaret (1886) andJames Dale (1890). Samuel married Agnes STOKES in 1903 in Govan, and my grandfather Robert BARNES was born there in 1909, followed by his two brothers Samuel and Frederick, and two sisters Molly and Nancy. I would be very grateful for any information related to my maternal Grandparent David Taylor & Isabells Thomson. I know they lived in the Govan area around the 1900s, and that I had cousins who lived in Cessnock. They had a large family four boys and four girls. He built Newlyn House. He then married Jane B... after 1879. Other names in the family were John, Peter, Margaret, Isabella, James, Joseph, Jessie and Mary Ann. By marriage other names were Fotheringham, JF McFadyen, Colin FH McFadyen, Ella McNeil. Peter married Isabella Donald and may have relatives by the name of Ross. Charles Young married Jane Clelland in 1860. His parents were Charles Young and Jeannie Smillie (Smellie). A descendant Charles Young (had a bookstore in Glasgow) & married Jean MacGregor about 1935.

William Stirling - Govan
I am researching the Stirling family. William was born about 1899 to William Stirling and his wife Elizabeth, nee Gibson. The younger William married Margaret Caldwell in 1924. I can not find the younger William's birth record nor the marriage record of his parents William and Elizabeth. The marriage in 1924 took place at Cathcart in Lanarkshire and the Stirlings lived at 93 Shackleton Street, Govan. Any information would be useful.

My Grand Father, Jack White Russell came to Canada from Hamilton Scotland when he was young. I know that he had a few sisters however I am only aware of one of their names. Anne Gordon, she married a police officer (that would be where the gordon came into my name) Although officer Gordon was killed on duty again I don't know when.
