Do you have both SCOTT and MURRAY in your family tree? - Glasgow
Many members of our family have been given the middle name SCOTT. I am trying to find out where this came from. The first person I know of was my great grandfather JOHN SCOTT SINGLETON who was born in 1852 to Robert Peter SINGLETON and Harriet Matilda WHITE. From naming patterns in other parts of the family at that time it seems that the eldest son was often given the first name of his fathers father and his mothers or mothers mothers maiden name as a middle name. Now I know John Scott's mothers maiden name was WHITE and her mother Isabella's maiden name was MURRAY, and think perhaps HER mothers maiden name could have been SCOTT. I know Isabella was born in Glasgow but came to England (Reading, Berkshire) where she married in 1827. I know its a long shot but maybe there is someone who has both Scotts and Murrays in their family tree, who were in Glasgow at the start of the 19th Century.
