Nathaniel Bland - Balmaclellan
I am looking for information on a Nathaniel Bland born 1788 in Balmaclellan, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. He married a Mary King born 1801 from England. His parents were John Bland and Jean Heron. At the time of the 1851 Census for Dumfrieshire, Kirkcudbrightshire & Wigtownshire, he was recorded as living at High Street, Household No. 2A/35. His occupation was listed as Burgh officer. A daughter Agness Bland born abt 1838 (she would have been about 13 in 1851) was also registered as living with Nathaniel and Mary at the time. If you have any information in regard to this family or know any relatives of this family, I would be so grateful to hear from you.

James McDowall (also listed as Dowall or Dowah) was married to Mary Milroy 19 January 1844. James was a granite miner. The only child of theirs known to date is my great-grandfather, Samuel McDowall, born 5 December 1858 in Creetown. He emigrated toNew Zealand, and married three times, (1)Margaret Campbell (2)Janie Crawford (3)Jessie Wilson nee Fredric. He was a ships engineer for many years with the Union Steamship Company of Auckland, NZ and died in February 1919, at Wellington. Interested inany further information that may shed light on James McDowall and other members of his family.

Circa 1886, Jemima Gibson was reputed to be born in Crossmichael. On April 22 1804, she married John Wylie in Sorbie Wig. According to the census's I've checked, all say she was born there, but for some reason I can find no trace of her birth or forthat matter ever having been there. I believe that John Bell, born 1887/8 in Dalbeattie, Kirkudbrightshire, may be my Grandfather who married Margaret (Mary) Ryan born 1888 in Ireland. He later moved to Birkenhead, Cockermouth, Barrow in Furness and to Blackburn where he died in 1939 aged 52 yrs. He had three daughters, Margaret, Annie and Betty; his second child was a son, John Charles, born in Whitehaven or Workington, Cockermouth in 1915; this was my father who married Elsie Townley. He died in 1938 in Blackburn.

I am searching for details of Joseph Craig Callan possibly from Auchencairn who married Mary Brown who was born 1845 possibly Dalbeattie area. They went to Hartlepool and returned to Dalbeattie/Auchencairn after 1867. Joseph died in Auchencairn on 1/4/1870, leaving a widow and son Ivie Allen Callan. Mary remarried James Douglas McClymont, a Dalbeattie shopkeeper (possibly a tailor) in 1872. I cannot find birth, marriage or death certificates for Joseph. or birth certificate for Mary. Their son Ivie started a newspaper The Stewartry Observer approx 1892 which ran until 1950s.

I'm seeking information on John Lourie b Girthon Nov 1863, father John Lourie, mother Jessie Kinnell. Young John was a jockey and killed in a riding accident in France. I have no date. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I would go about finding anything about the accident, whether or not there was likely to have been an inquest in France, Scotland or England.
